Orkney Athletic and Running Club is run by volunteers. The success of the Club now and in the future relies upon the goodwill of our club members, their families and our local community.

The Club welcomes and values all volunteers, providing support and training and tries to give volunteers experiences which match their talents, interests and lifestyles. Most roles will require a PVG through PVG Scotland.

It is fully appreciated that as volunteers, your time is valuable, which is why we aim to ‘spread the load’ and make sure everyone’s commitment is effective – and achievable. Currently, we are particularly keen to hear from people who might help us in the following roles:

  • Shot Put Coach: The club does not currently have a shot put coach and is not providing any training in this popular event. We would really like to hear from anybody who would be interested in working towards a Scottish Athletics Coach licence and taking a group of throwers on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. No experience is required and mentorship from experienced coaches would be provided.
  • Social Media: manage the club socials (currently just Facebook but could be more) alongside the chair, particular focus on reporting on athletes competing and successes outwith Orkney. Writing up these for the Facebook but also for local media – The Orcadian and BBC Radio Orkney.
  • Club Trustees: As a charity, OARC is managed by a board of trustees. We’re keen to have a wide representation of viewpoints on the board, so would particularly welcome the addition of a current athlete and/or club official, but anyone with an interest is welcome.

If you would like to get involved, then please contact the Chair to discuss.

We look forward to hearing from you!
