Orkney Athletic and Running Club is run by volunteers. The success of the Club now and in the future relies upon the goodwill of our club members, their families and our local community.

The Club welcomes and values all volunteers, providing support and training and tries to give volunteers experiences which match their talents, interests and lifestyles. Most roles will require a PVG through PVG Scotland.

It is fully appreciated that as volunteers, your time is valuable, which is why we aim to ‘spread the load’ and make sure everyone’s commitment is effective – and achievable. Currently, we are particularly keen to hear from people who might help us in the following roles:

  • Club Treasurer: Handling club finances and budgeting: this is a role that requires you to be comfortable with money and numbers, but you do not need to be an accountant or have similar experience: our accounts are prepared externally by Voluntary Action Orkney and the Treasurer’s role is to supply them with the correct information. We are looking at digital bookkeeping, so any experience with that would be a bonus but is certainly not required. This is a key role without which the club cannot continue to exist.
  • Island Games Coordination: Someone to attend occasional meetings of the Orkney Island Games Association and report back to the board and coaches on what is required from us, helping to maintain our attendance and success in this popular biannual event.
  • Social Media: manage the club socials (currently just Facebook but could be more) alongside the chair, particular focus on reporting on athletes competing and successes outwith Orkney. Writing up these for the Facebook but also for local media – The Orcadian and BBC Radio Orkney.
  • Club Trustees: As a charity, OARC is managed by a board of trustees. We’re keen to have a wide representation of viewpoints on the board, so would particularly welcome the addition of a current athlete and/or club official, but anyone with an interest is welcome.

If you would like to get involved, then please contact the Chair to discuss.

We look forward to hearing from you!
