OARC is committed to promoting athletics and running in Orkney, both in OARC-organised competitions and for general recreation. There are a number of other great organisations, groups and individuals who share this ethos.

Kirkwall Parkrun

Orkney’s only Parkrun is held at the Peedie Sea in Kirkwall every Saturday at 9:30 AM. Run entirely by volunteers, it provides a timed 5k race for all abilities every week on a flat and only occasionally wind-swept course. Parkrun is a positive, welcoming and inclusive experience where there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate.

Kirkwall Joggers

Kirkwall Joggers are a friendly, informal group which includes a number of OARC members. They welcome beginners and Couch to 5k participants.

A great way of getting started with running, the NHS Couch to 5k app provides guided runs for absolute beginners or people who haven’t run for a long time.
