Great run by the lasses ❤️❤️
Scottish Schools Secondary Outdoor Championships Day 1
Elsie, Nuala and Freya are down at Grangemouth representing Kirkwall Grammar School at the Scottish Schools Championships, a two day affair with Elsie doing 1500m today, 800m tomorrow, and Nuala & Freya competing over 100m today and 200m tomorrow.
Freya and Nuala were both placed in the first of four heats, which ended up being the fastest of them: Freya finished third in 12.95s, the sixth fastest time across all four heats, while Nuala finished fifth in 13.17s in the twelfth fastest. Both qualified for the semi finals, Freya automatically with a top three finish and Nuala as the third fastest of four time qualifiers.
Before the semi finals, Elsie had her U20 1500m, and she built on her form this season to go sub-5 minutes again and claim an outdoor PB of 4:59.03, finishing fourth in a high quality race.
Back at the 100m, Nuala and Freya were in the opposite semi finals. Freya ran first, finishing fourth in 13.06, while Nuala was seventh in the second semi final in 13.32. Neither was quite enough to advance to the final, although Freya was very close, the first athlete to miss out and .04s from a spot in the final.
Well done to all three, and good luck tomorrow for the 200m and 800m!

Lillie Giggle-Bain bin ein Berl-winner!
Lillie is developing a real niche in finding track events on her holidays, this time the magnificently named Berlin-Brandenburg Meisterschaften (a phenomenal word for Championships).
Lillie took silver in the 1500m in 4:50 and added a 2:20 800m for good luck afterwards. Not the wurst (sorry) start to a trip to Berlin!

On one of the many celebratory JIC posts, Mags put, more succinctly than I usually manage, the need for more folk to step forward to volunteer. OARC is a club that's fantastically well supported by a relatively small number of incredibly dedicated individuals. We can't rely on those people always being available and willing forever, and need more people to help across basically every element of the club - administration, officiating, coaching. If you have any time, or any skills to offer, please get in touch, it really would be hugely appreciated.
Moments like this weekends incredible JIC drama rely on it.

We have so much talent in Orkney but it needs to be nurtured and helped along the way. Well done to the coaches who should be applauded. Please do what you can to support our young athletes.

As well as providing regular athletic instruction and training sessions, one of the key aims of OARC is to promote pathways to performance and as part of this, the Club organises and participates in a range of home and away competitions throughout the year.
